Welcome to the New York City Guide

The purpose this website is to suggest some "must see" sights and tourist attractions for  people to visit during their stay in New York City. All these sights would be well known to New Yorkers but not necessarily by those from out of town.

The streets of New York are mostly based on a grid pattern, so finding your way around is not difficult, we would advise that you invest in one of the small "pop out" maps that are readily available. As for getting about, there is of course the famous Yellow Taxis, but to really get the atmosphere of New York City you could try the public transport system. The subway is reasonably efficient and the routes and stations will be marked on your map. There is also a good bus service, but this might be slightly more difficult to get to grips with first off. A "Metro" pre-paid card can be purchased as an easy way to pay for your journeys.

One very good way to get about is simply to walk. Unlike other cities in the United States where the car is king, New York and especially Manhattan Island is a walkers paradise, by all means use public transport to get to the area you want but then just walk and explore.

We have started with the obvious world famous attractions such as the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and everyone has heard of Times Square, and no visit to New York would be complete without a visit to the Empire State Building, but for those visiting America for the first time, attractions like Radio City, the Rockefeller Center, Grant's Tomb and the Frick Collection, may not be so well known, plus the fact that Grand Central is not just another railway station.

Please feel free to browse the site, if you wish to pass on to us any comments then you can e-mail us via our Contact page. We would also like to hear from you if you have any good Tips & Tricks that we could pass on to our visitors.
